Fluoride

How does fluoride act?

Nearly ervery toothpaste does contain fluoride. Fluoride has a systemic effect. If present during tooth formation enamel is pruoduces in a less soluble variant. After a tooth is erupted fluoride has local effects on plaque (inhibition) and remineralization by saliva (more effective).

How to apply fluoride?

Table salt contains it to giva a basic dose to everybody. In children swallowed toothpaste is the most important sources. Be aware: Nobody can spit toothpaste out effectively. Therefore the correct fluoride concentration in relation to age has to be obeyed. There is one big source of error: The quantity used. Only use a pea size amount! In the case of proven increased caries risk mouthrinse, mouth gel, varnish etc have to be added.

Emergencies

The very first visit at a dentist

A very special experience? Preferably not! Please let your child accompany you to your routine dental visits from the age of 3 to get accustomed with room, sound, smell equipment and people. If then asked "Do you want to show us your teeth?" most agree eagerly.

PLEASE use the word PAIN never ever in the same context as dentistry. Not even in negation. Pain is an issue to be discussed only in the case of acute pain or swelling, because local anesthesia then might not work perfectly.

Orthodontics

Why are orthodontic treatments necessary?

The sizes of teeth and jaws are not genetically linked properly. Pacifier and habits can be a cause, too.

When ist the perfect time to start?

This can only be answered individually.

Aligner instead of wire?

Nowadays more than 80% of cases need not attachments glued to the teeth and wires connected. Instead, aligners like https://www.straumann.com/clearcorrect/ch/de/home/patients.html get cheaper, faster and better results with a much less discomfort.

Adolescents

From the age of 15 to 25 caries progress is quickest. Its consequences might only appear many years later.
